TIRUPATI: As part of its programme to project the useful qualities of the traditional `Panchagavya' and to revive its use in the country as a lasting health scheme, the TTD has despatched a study team to `Go Vignana Anusandhana Kendra' located at Nagpur. The team headed by Superintendent of the TTD's S.V. Ayurveda Pharmacy Rajaiah during its three-day visit to the centre studied the production of a range of Ayurvedic medicines from the `Panchagavya' which comprises five components such as cow's urine, milk, curd, dung and ghee. According to a note circulated by the study team, the Nagpur centre has specialised on making Arkam tablets from the cow's urine, incense sticks, soaps, massage oils from cow dung and ghee from Panchagavyam.
Curative aspects
The centre is said to be engaged in studies to get `Panchagavya-based' medicines and their curative aspects scientifically analysed and monitored and bring out scientific papers for their widespread acceptance removing the prejudices against their use. The TTD study team observed farmers in Maharashtra extensively using the byproducts of Panchagavya as pesticides, vermi-compost supported by the govt's agricultural extension wing. The TTD which is running its own massive dairy at Tirupati is contemplating to emulate the Nagpur centre in taking up an extensive manufacture and distribution of the traditional medicines among its visiting pilgrims and common men.
