GUNTUR: Polam Badi programme, launched by the State Government, is a hit among the farmers as many of them are benefited by it, said Agriculture Department Joint Director P. Ajith Kumar. Speaking at the inauguration of the district-level training programme for farmers from across the district under the Polam Badi programme here on Friday, he said that intensive cultivation practices were now being followed by the farmers.
Encouraging feedback
"The officials have conducted more than 183 training programmes across the 57 mandals in the district during the Kharif season and the feedback we got from the farmers from each training programme is very encouraging," he said. As a result of the efforts of the scientists and their advices given to farmers on scientific methods of farming, intensive cultivation practices were witnessed across many new places. There was a reduction in the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticide use, Mr. Ajith Kumar said. Scientists from Regional Agriculture Research Station at Lam in Guntur district, A. Murali Rao, N. Prasad and other scientists stressed the need to grow crops according to the soil and climatic conditions. "Growing the crops in your own field just because some one from a particular place had a good yield is a very risky affair. Grow those crops which are suitable for growing in your own field," they said.
