Rajaji remembered

NEW DELHI: Rich tributes were paid to C. Rajagopalachari at a meeting organised by the National Cultural Organisation here on Friday to celebrate his 127th birth anniversary.

NCO Chairman N. P. Seshadri recalled the great services rendered to the country by Rajaji and appealed to all political parties to emulate his teachings and sense of integrity. "Rajaji never abused his position at any time."

Dr. Seshadri also appealed to the Tamil Nadu Government "to stop holding music conferences in every street of Chennai at a time when the whole of Tamil Nadu is flooded and thousands of people are suffering without food and shelter".

Cricket for a cause

NEW DELHI: The corporate world, celebrities and media will join hands this Sunday when they play each other in a special match as part of the "Cricket for a cause" series.

For the past five years, CRY (Child Relief and You) along with its partner Cadence Design Systems has been organising ``CRY Cadence Corporate Challenge'' for the cause of underprivileged children. Every catch, every boundary and all action on the field will contribute towards educating a child through CRY.

SC/ST rally

NEW DELHI: The All-India Confederation of SC/ST Organisations will hold a rally at Ramlila Grounds here on Sunday to demand enactment of a law to give reservation to Dalit community members in the private sector.

The rally will be addressed by Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh; Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury; Janata Dal (U) leader Sharad Yadav and Ramdas Athawale of Republican Party of India. The protestors would later march towards Parliament Street.

BSES crackdown

NEW DELHI: To ensure quality and reliable power supply to its paying consumers, BSES has come down heavily on those indulging in power thefts.

The BSES enforcement team on Thursday removed nearly 1,000 illegal tappings in the Seelampur area of East Delhi.

According to a BSES spokesman, the anti-power theft drive reduced illegal power theft of over 500 KW. Over 300 kg of wires used for illegal tapping from overhead power lines were removed by the enforcement team.
