HYDERABAD: Silk sarees from RmKV, a Chennai-based wedding silks showroom, do not merely drape one in resplendent and handwoven silks, but have a story to tell, a culture to recapture and perpetuate the classics and timeless wonders of art. A visit to the to RmKV stall at the Hitex Exhibition centre makes one not only appreciate the live demonstration of silk weaving, but also realise how the tradition gels with the contemporary. Says Director K.Viswanathan "Our effort is to retain the tradition while making it contemporary and appealing to the younger generation. It is the only way to keep the saree, the traditional attire of Indian women go through the generations." The showroom which manufactures silk, has its own handpicked weavers, design studio, has produced sarees in over 30 themes like `Hamsa Damayanthi', Kolam saree, saree with seven wonders theme, tribal art, and embellished with embroidery, Swarovski crystals besides its recent creation of sarees with 50,000 and 1.25 lakh different colours. The sarees are available in the price range of Rs.3,000 to Rs.1 lakh. The stall also has fancy sarees and party wear in chiffon, georgette with embroidery and other works from all over the country.
