HYDERABAD: The Army Ordnance Corps, one of the largest logistics organisations of the world supplying a staggering five lakh inventory to the Indian Army, was poised to conduct in-storage dynamic proof of ammunition to check serviceability of ammunition by 2006, according to Director-General of Ordnance Services, Lt. Gen. TA D'Cunha. One of the major responsibilities of the Corps is management of ammunition, including warehousing, in-storage proof, repairs and disposal of unserviceable ammunition. Speaking to mediapersons at the eighth reunion celebrations at the AOC Centre here on Friday, he said a series of measures were initiated to increase the safety and security of ammunition.
Daunting task
He said the supply chain management of five lakh items comprising a diverse range of armaments, electronic equipment, armoured fighting vehicles, load and troop carrying vehicles, ammunition and explosives and so on across the length and breadth of the nation was a daunting task. To equip itself with the changing operational needs and geographical demands, the Computerised Inventory Control project was launched recently.
