KOCHI : The Second Vatican Council was a milestone in the history of the Catholic Church, Apostolic Nuncio to India Pedro Lopez Quintana has said. He was speaking at a function organised on Friday at the Pastoral Orientation Centre here in connection with the Ruby Jubilee celebrations of the second Vatican Council. "Believers should abide by the evangelical principles of justice, love and peace. The Church experienced the divine presence of the Good Shepherd following the second Vatican Council," he said. Delivering the presidential address, Major Archbishop Cyril Mar Baselious said that it was time to do some introspection about one's life. The second Vatican Council redefined the duty of each church organisation. It asserted that the church was not just an institution but a community of believers, he said. Revenue Minister K.M. Mani, who was the chief guest at the event, said that modernisation set foot in the world only in the 90's. But it set foot in the church in 1965 when the Second Vatican Council came up with its results, he said. Archbishop of the Varapuzha Archdiocese Daniel Acharuparambil and Bishop of the Pala Diocese Mar Joseph Kallarangat gave the benedictory message. Kochi Mayor Mercy Williams; Sebastian Paul, MP, and K. Babu, MLA, too were present.
