CITU to lay siege to taluk offices

Kochi: Workers under the banner of CITU will lay siege to taluk offices in the district on December 20 demanding that the Government take immediate steps to protect the industrial and labour sectors in the State. Protests will be held in front of taluk offices at Kanayannur, Kunnathunad, Aluva, and Muvattupuzha. — Staff Reporter

DCC programmes

Kochi: The District Congress Committee (DCC) has charted out various programmes for the next three months. Conventions and meetings will be held in the district before December 15. Booth convention will be completed before December 17. Congress workers will participate in rallies to be held in all Assembly constituencies on January 31, according to a press release. — Staff Reporter

Wins award

Kochi: Harish Babu, cameraman of Indiavision, has won the cameraperson of the year award instituted by CNN news channel. Mr. Babu won the award for his work in Oru Vadakkan Onakazhcha telecast in Indiavision. He received the award at a function held in New Delhi on Thursday. — Staff Reporter

Meet on theatre

Kochi: Vice-Chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology P.K. Abdul Azis said on Friday that campus theatre could play a key role in rejuvenating campuses in the State. Dr. Azis was delivering the inaugural address at the conference on theatre research held on the campus on Friday. — Staff Reporter

Employees' rally

Kochi: Employees affiliated to Cochin Shipyard Workers' Union (CITU) staged a rally on Friday in protest against the Government decision to reduce the interest rate for provident fund. — Staff Reporter

Stir threat

Kochi: Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association pointed out that the Kerala State Electricity Board decision to collect additional cash deposit would affect the hotel industry in the State. The hotel industry would be forced to launch agitations if the Board failed to withdraw its decision, according to a press release issued by the association on Friday. — Staff Reporter

Additional flight

Kochi: Jet Airways will operate an additional flight on Kochi-Bangalore sector on December 16. Flight No.9W 5263 (departure Kochi 1300 hrs arrival Bangalore 1400). This service is in addition to the existing two daily flights operated on this sector, according to a press release issued by Jet Airways. — Staff Reporter

Review meeting

Kochi: A meeting to review the preparations in connection with the Kochi visit of President A.P.J Abdul Kalam will be held at the camp office of the District Collector at 12 p.m. on December 12. Palluruthy block panchayat utilised maximum funds under the Plan fund allotted to local bodies in Ernakulam district during this financial year. Kanjoor came first in the list of grama panchayats in the district. — Staff Reporter
