Brothers found guilty in Sandra murder case

Verdict to be pronounced on December 13

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The District and Sessions Judge D. Pappachan on Friday found guilty the twin brothers arrested in connection with the murder of Sandra Maria Fernandez, 17, whose body was found inside the well in the compound of her house at Punnavoor, Malayankeezhu in August, 2004.

The accused, Nigel Joseph Fernandez, 23 and Trevor Joseph Fernandez, 23, relatives of Sandra were found guilty by the court under sections 427 (mischief causing damage) 436 (mischief by fire) and 302 (murder). The verdict will be pronounced by the court on December 13.

The prosecution case was that the twin brothers hacked Sandra to death using a hatchet and shoved her body into the well following an altercation with the accused at around 9 p.m. The accused were staying in the house along with Sandra and her 12-year-old brother, Christopher Gary, at the time of occurrence of the crime. The victim's brother is now a ninth standard student.
