Remand extended

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Friday extended by ten days the police remand of the alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) conduit, Rafiq, who was arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police on November 21 in connection with the October 29 blasts in the Capital. clubbed charge-sheet in the matter within the stipulated time.

Farmhouses sealed

NEW DELHI: At least nine farmhouses that had recently been rented out for marriage ceremonies in violation of a Delhi High Court directive were sealed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Friday. Unauthorised portions of a farmhouse at Narela in West Delhi were also demolished.

Haj pilgrim dies

NEW DELHI: A 65-year-old pilgrim from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh died on board a special Haj flight at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Friday. The flight was delayed by about an hour due to the incident. Rashid could not be revived.

Painting competition

NEW DELHI: The Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the aegis of the Ministry of Power will organise the finals of the "National Painting Competition for Children" at Vishwa Yuvak Kendra here on Sunday as part of its awareness campaign for energy conservation.

According to an NTPC release, the competition will see participation of 70 children who have qualified at the various State-level competitions.

Bank initiative

NEW DELHI: State Bank of Hyderabad introduced Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) initiatives at its Shalimar Bagh branch here this past weekend.

Under the initiative, employees of the bank assist customers in transacting their business with ease, while the drop-box facility enables them to drop their cheques for clearing without standing in queues

NEW DELHI: Ansal Institute of Technology (AIT) in association with the Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Among Youth (SPIC MACAY) hosted a cultural programme at its Gurgaon premises earlier this week

Alleged thief held

NEW DELHI: A 23-year-old man has been arrested on charges of committing burglaries at Prashant Vihar. At his instance, stolen gold worth Rs. 60,000 was recovered.
