Man arrested on charge of chain snatching

BANGALORE: The Thyagarajanagar police have arrested an employee of the Kannada and Culture Department and his accomplice on the charge of snatching gold chains from three women.

The police recovered from them three gold chains, a scooter and a motorcycle, together worth Rs. 1.75 lakh.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Alok Kumar told presspersons here on Friday that Raghavendra (28) of R.T. Nagar, an employee of the Kannada and Culture Department, and Ravi (24), also of R.T. Nagar, had snatched the chains from three women who were drawing rangoli in front of their houses in Thyagarajanagar and Basavanagudi police station limits.

Commissioner of Police Ajai Kumar Singh said he would write to the Kannada and Culture Department to initiate action against its employee.

Students arrested

The Tilaknagar police arrested three students on the charge of vehicle theft and recovered from them three motorcycles, together worth Rs. 1 lakh.

The police said the accused, all aged 16 and studying in second PUC, had stolen the vehicles from Jayanagar and Koramangala police station limits. They had stolen the vehicle to go on jolly rides, the police said. In another case, the Tilaknagar police arrested four youths on the charge of robbery, chain snatching and extortion and recovered from them nine gold chains, a gold ring and a mobile phone, all worth Rs. 2.10 lakhs. The names of the arrested were given as Seena alias Bheema (21) of 9th Block, Jayanagar and Manjunath (20), Anbu (18) and Usman Ali Khan (18), all residents of Tilaknagar.
