Canara Bank to organise EDP for women

KOZHIKODE: The Mahila Banking division of Canara Bank will organise an entrepreneurial development programme (EDP) for women as part of the bank's centenary celebrations, said Shini, officer-in-charge of the Mahila Banking Division.

She was speaking at a programme organised recently in Kozhikode to distribute loans to newly formed self-help groups and loans on differential rates of interest (at 4 per cent) to the financially backward for self-employment ventures.

The Mahila Banking Division has been conducting awareness programmes for women, with stress on stimulating entrepreneurial spirit.

Medical camp

Among the other welfare programmes for women in the pipeline is a medical camp to be held at Puthiappa.

Kozhikode District Collector Rachna Shah distributed loans to self-help groups at the function.

The bank authorities said The Malabar Theeradesa Vanitha Federation, at Kampuram in Kozhikode, has been offered a grant of Rs.5.3 lakhs by Canara Bank for forming 100 self-help groups.

K.G.P. Shenoi, assistant general manager, Kozhikode, and T.S. Veereraghavan, chief manager, also spoke.
