VIJAYAWADA: With Christmas just a few weeks way, the air is filled with melodious carols and hymns in praise of Jesus Christ. The celebrations, organised by the NSM Public School on Saturday, witnessed several cultural programmes and the most significant item was the students' spirited enactment of "A Christmas carol," written by the well-known author Charles Dickens of 18th century. As many as 18 students performed the play-let, which was edited by the staff Shyamala and directed by P. Suvarna Mary. Lavender Powell coordinated the event. The school's ambience reflected the true spirit of the festival as the dozens of balloons, festoons and the quintessential stars of various sizes, added grace to the festivities. Rev. Br John Kallarackal, principal of the school, in his message said that the true peace and joy comes through the attitude of caring and sharing. "Jesus came down to us to save us and make us really know and realise that we are all children of one God. Christmas continues to radiate its beauty and perennial joy because of the message of it." Amidst wild cheers and bonhomie, schoolteacher G. Padmavathi appeared as Santa Claus and distributed sweets and gifts to the children. Primary Superintendent Rev. Bro. Jagan, Mrs. Suvarna Mary, Mrs. Shamala, Ms. Lavender and others took part in the festivities.
