GUNTUR: In order to comply with the obligations of Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), the Government has introduced changes in the patent law by bringing in Patent Amendment Act 2005, said former Dean from faculty of Law, Osmania University, K.Srinivas Rao. Speaking at a seminar on `Intellectual Property Rights - Their Impact on Trade and Services' conducted by the Hindu College here on Friday, he said that for the first time, the law made a provision for process as well as product patent. "The earlier distinction between product and process patent was done away due to the introduction of product patent," he said. The law introduced new provisions, granting of compulsory license for manufacturing and exporting of patented pharmaceutical products to any country having sufficient or no manufacturing capacity to meet the emergent public health situations.
