ERODE: Flood in Amarvathy river has affected drinking water supply in Dharapuram, said the Municipal Councillors here. At the Dharapuram Municipal Council meeting held on Friday, with Vice- Chairman, Srinivasan presiding, Bhoopathy, a councillor, wanted the officials to streamline supply. Subash, municipal engineer, said that the lid of the water tank, constructed on the banks of Amaravathy, had been washed away and the tank damaged. The Municipal administration has urged the District Collector to sanction Rs. 10 lakhs for reconstruction.
Assurance
They are pumping water through eight bore wells and supplying the water once in five days to the residents. He assured that soon the supply would be streamlined. Earlier Bhoopathy complained that in the Housing Unit area, the drainage was found stagnating in a private premises and also the municipal officials said steps were already taken for speedy flow of drainage water.
Scarcity of drivers
The Municipal Engineer said that at present the administration had scarcity of drivers and the Collector has already instructed them to appoint an ex-serviceman on daily wage basis. Mubaraq, a councillor, said in many public toilets proper water facility was not there. Another councillor, Marimuthu said that during flood , electricity supply was disconnected in Kozhinchiwady area, and had not been restored in some streets. The officials promised to make a representation to the TNEB.
