CHENNAI: Bank of India is planning to open `representative' offices in Beijing and Doha, and has received the Reserve Bank of India approval for opening its branch at Antwerp in Belgium, a top executive of the bank said here on Saturday. "There is also a proposal to open a wholly-owned subsidiary at Dar-Es-Salaam in Tanzania and more branches in the SAARC region, Africa and Europe,'' BOI Chairman and Managing Director M. Balachandran told newsmen here. The bank would be the first nationalised Indian bank to open an office in Beijing, he said adding that the bank was also in the process of upgrading its representative offices in Shenzen (China) and Vietnam into branch offices. "We are waiting for approval from the regulators of these countries and hopefully by the end of March next, these branches will be opened,'' Mr. Balachandran said.
