DAVANGERE: Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly B.S. Yediyurappa has challenged Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh and Janata Dal (Secular) President H.D. Deve Gowda to hold an open discussion on the performance of the coalition Government in the last 18 months if they had the moral satisfaction of doing any thing for the poor, downtrodden and farmers. "I will point out how they spent more than 18 months in office without doing any work, and let them defend it," he said. Launching the party's campaign for the ensuing elections to taluk and zilla panchayats in Davangere district at Devanahalli in Chennagiri taluk on Saturday, Mr. Yediurappa alleged that the coalition Government failed miserably on all fronts. The BJP leader predicted the fall of the coalition Government by March-end. He criticised Mr. Gowda for joining hands with the Congress after declaring before Assembly elections that he will send many Congress leaders to jail for grabbing lands in and around Bangalore. Referring to the Union Government's move to ask the State Government to return the grants released for flood relief works, Mr. Yediurappa said that Mr. Singh is the weakest Chief Minister the State had so far seen. He wondered why the State Government is dilly-dallying over taking up relief works and utilising the grants completely by this time. This reflected the inefficiency of the government, he said. He said that neither the Congress nor the Janata Dal (Secular) can give an effective administration. Siddeshwar, Davangere MP, spoke.
