VIJAYAWADA: The curvaceous road at the foot of the Kanakadurga temple, which has been frequently witnessing traffic jams and accidents, will be widened by 15 feet by cutting the hill and demolishing some of the choultries belonging to the temple. An estimated Rs. 1.5 crore of expenditure required for this widening will be borne by the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarla Devasthanam. This was decided during District Collector Navin Mittal's visit to the place along with Mayor Tadi Sakuntala and other officials. As the Mayor drew Collector's attention to the bad condition of the railing on the other side of the road abutting bathing ghats, the latter directed the officials to widen the road on this side too by about 10 feet. The sellers of puja material here would be compensated by being allowed to carry on their business on the hilltop. The temple authorities came forward to foot the bill after sending the proposals to the State Government.
