Nitish, Mahajan seek to end row

My statement has been misinterpreted, says Pramod Mahajan

NEW DELHI: Seeking to end the controversy over Bihar migrants, the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Saturday said his reaction on the matter was in response to the information provided to him by the media.

"I later realised that the information given to me was distorted and I seek your (media) cooperation in ending the controversy,'' he said at a reception organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in his honour.

Mr. Kumar said people from Bihar had a right to go to any part of the country for studies or for employment. And wherever they go, they excel on merit, he added.

"We must also know that major cities such as Delhi and Mumbai do not belong to any particular community but our effort should be to make Bihar liveable so that people do not feel the need to go out,'' he added.

Mr. Kumar's reaction came shortly after BJP general secretary Pramod Mahajan issued a clarification from New Delhi claiming that his statement had been `misinterpreted' and that whatever he had said was for the good of the students coming from all parts of the country to Mumbai.
