Book on Bipin Bihari

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: A book has been published on the life and ideals of late Bipin Bihari Choudhury, a deaf and mute artist who is known for his work as a painter and service for the deaf and mute people of Orissa.

The book titled `Artist of a Mute World' has been written by Mona Lisa Jena, granddaughter of the late artist.

It has been published by New Age Publications, a Cuttack-based publishing house and priced at Rs. 95.

The book has on its cover a sketch of the late artist by the famous painter Jatin Das. The different chapters in the book deal with the artist's childhood days in Calcutta, student days in London's prestigious Royal College of Art, his days of founding the All Orissa Deaf and Dumb School in Cuttack and his stint as president of the Orissa Lalit Kala Akademi.

The book mentions in detail about the artist's associations with great personalities and his joyous moments when he found his name among the top four students when the final year results were announced in the Royal College of Art and thereby became the first deaf-mute in the world to achieve such distinction. The publication of the book is in commemoration of the artist's birth centenary.
