`Fanoos' weakens into depression
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
`Fanoos,' the cyclone, weakened into a deep depression and crossed the north Tamil Nadu coast near Vedaranyam at around 11 a.m. on Saturday. The depression lay over land and is likely to move in a westerly direction and weaken further, the Weather office here said.
A bulletin issued this afternoon said "fairly widespread rainfall, with isolated heavy to very heavy fall, is likely over the State during the next 24 hours. The state of the sea will be rough along and off Tamil Nadu coast." Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea for another 12 hours.
Official sources said they received reports of two persons being electrocuted to death in Tondi in Ramanathapuram district, when a live wire fell on a collapsed house.
