Couple commit suicide

MANGALORE: A couple who were reportedly dejected at not having children after eight years of marriage ended their lives by hanging themselves to a tree at Matla forest near Kasba village in Belthangady taluk either on Thursday or Friday.

Belthangady Police investigating the case gave the names of the deceased as Angara alias Chandrashekar (30) and his wife Kamala (26).

According to complaint lodged by Neelaiah, a relative, the couple had problems owing to Angara's second marriage, from which he had two children.

Man killed

An elderly person was knocked down by a motorcyclist at Mundaje village under Belthangady Police Station limits on Saturday. Police said Kocha Naika (74) walking along the Bantwal-Kadur State Highway when he was knocked down. Mr. Naika died while being taken to a hospital in Mangalore. Driver of the motorcycle, Srinidhi, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Ujire. Gopal Naika has lodged a complaint.
