RELIEF TO ROAD USERS: Two-wheeler drivers have started using the road over bridge at the MIT Gate, Chromepet. Photo : A. Muralitharan
TAMBARAM : Two-wheeler riders have started using the road over bridge at the MIT Gate, Chromepet. Final touches are being given to the bridge linking Hasthinapuram and Chromepet, particularly on the approaches to the five roads branching out from the GST Road and near the Sardar Patel Road on the Hasthinapuram side. The bridge, due to be completed in November 2002, was delayed owing to various factors, inability to reach a consensus on the compensation to landowners being the most important. In July, Public Works Department Minister O.Panneerselvam visited the site and it was then stated that the work would be completed by the end of October. Work resumed briskly after the row over compensation was settled. At a meeting of the Pallavaram Council, the representatives had urged the Government to finish the work at the earliest. Once completed, the bridge will benefit residents of Chromepet, Hasthinapuram, Chitlapakkam and areas adjacent to the Velachery Main Road who are forced to wait at railway crossings at Tambaram Sanatorium to reach the GST Road.
