Kochi: The Shop and Office Holders' Association, GCDA (Greater Cochin Development Authority) complex, on Saturday, protested against the report of a committee, headed by K. Babu, MLA, which went into the mushrooming of unauthorised shops inside the complex. At a press conference, T.V. Thomas, president of the association, said the GCDA executive committee had appointed the three-member committee in August. The report was submitted on Thursday. He alleged that the report, favouring unauthorised shops, said functioning of one such establishment had marred the architectural beauty of the shopping complex. But it further said the shop owner be allowed to continue his business, but the GCDA should not allow such unauthorised shops to come up in future. There were differences of opinion over the issue when the executive committee of the GCDA met last time. The report was not acceptable to the association. In fact, the GCDA had not discussed the allotment of shops. Besides, shops were allotted illegally when there was a court decree against such an action.
