Murder accused done to death

GUNTUR: In a ghastly incident, Pera Sreenivas of Budampadu was done to death in broad daylight in the city on Sunday morning.

Group rivalry is said to be the cause for the murder. Sreenivas, who was riding a two-wheeler, while coming to Guntur from Budampadu, was hit by a car from behind at around 10 a.m. As he fell on the road, five persons emerged from the car and hacked him to death in front of Andhra Muslim College, the police said. They then sped away. There were said to be nine persons in the car.

Sreenivas was the first accused in the Nagam Srinivasa Rao murder case and was bound over by the RDO in several other cases, Circle Inspector D. Koteswara Rao said. This was not a political murder, but an act of vengeance for the earlier murder, according to the police. Sreenivas' brother Sambasiva Rao said he was an eyewitness to the incident as he was riding pillion.He pleaded for his life so the killers spared him.

Sreenivas, who was with the TDP until recently, joined the Congress during the cooperative elections and was said to be close to Raavi Venkata Ramana, the Prathipadu MLA. TDP leaders went in a delegation to Tadikonda and met Governor Sushil Kumar Shinde seeking justice and an end to political murders allegedly being perpetrated by the Congress. Led by district unit president Makineni Pedarathaiah and Nannapaneni Rajakumari, they made a vain attempt to stop the convoy of Governor near the mortuary. Adding to the confusion, Minister for Cooperation Kanna Lakshmi Narayana claimed that the victim belonged to the Congress.
