13-year-old girl defies parents, avoids early marriage
Staff Reporter
Sangareddy:
The relentless fight of a seventh standard girl of Venkatayapalli of Toopran mandal in Medak district against the efforts of her parents to marry her off to Venkatesh of Kontanpalli bore fruit with the help of Toopran Sub-Inspector Prabhakar.
Mr. Prabhakar has taken written assurance from both families that they will not trouble the girl any further.
According to Mr. Prabhakar, the girl, who is only 13 years old, was supposed to marry Venkatesh on Sunday. She escaped and lodged a complaint with the Toopran police.
After repeated warnings and thrashing by her parents -- Ramulu and Pentamma -- Renuku once again succeeded in reaching the police station on Saturday. The police restored the girl to her parents with a warning.
