A music contest organised by Calicut Music Club on Sunday reaffirmed the younger generation's fascination for the songs of legendary singers of the golden era of Hindi film music - Talat Mehmood and Hemanta Kumar. Soul-stirring numbers of Talat - `Jaltehai jiske liye,' `Phir wohi sham,' took those present down the memory lane. Club secretary Arangil Vasudevan said the objective was to keep alive music of 1940s to 1960s. R.S. Sarath, who rendered Talat's hit, `Haamse aayane gaya,' won the first prize of Rs.3,000. The second prize of Rs.2,000 was bagged by Shahjehan and third prize of Rs.1,000 went to M. Lateesh. Consolation prizes of Rs.500 each were given to V.R. Ranjit and T. Amyas Khan. A musical evening of hit Hindi film songs was also organised in which members of the club participated. Since inception five years ago, the club has been organising music programmes once in three months with a view to honouring renowned singers, musicians and lyricists of the Golden era. The objective is also to promote goodwill among lovers of Hindi film songs, the club members said.
