Pondicherry: Volunteers of the Dalit Movement for Rights to Land (Pondicherry and Tamilnadu unit) held a demonstration here at the end of a rally urging the Administration to concede their charter of demands. The chairperson of the Dr. Ambedkar Women`s wing in the Rationalist Movement Ms. Daisy Rani, the president of the `FUTURE` organisation Mr. Radha, the founder of the People`s Rights Federation G.Sukumaran and the delegate of Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam Loku Ayyappan were among those who addressed the demonstrators.
Land ceiling legislation
A detailed memorandum was later submitted to the Chief Minister N. Rangasamy by the office bearers of the Movement seeking redistribution of lands to the Dalit people, introduction of a special land ceiling legislation for Pondicherry so that the landless Dalit people living in abject poverty could be handed free of cost the sites, free house site pattas to the poor families belonging to the downtrodden community and also firm programmes to enhance the living conditions of the people through sustained measures instead of extending benefits on adhoc basis.
