KOZHIKODE: The Calicut Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) youth wing will request the Railways to reconsider the move to remove the first-class bogies from the Chennai-Mangalore Mail and the West Coast Express, two primary rail services operated in the Malabar region. CCCI youth wing secretary Shabeer Cheruvadi, in a statement here recently, urged the railways to attach more general bogies on trains being operated in the Malabar region. At the general body meeting held recently, the CCCI Youth wing, through a resolution, said the steps taken by the Railways in denying first-class facilities to the people in the Malabar region was unjustified. Sources at the Southern Railway office in Palakkad said the move by the Railways was part of the phasing out of first-class compartments.
