Over Rs. 8 crore given to relief fund

Cheques handed over to Chief Minister

CHENNAI: Cheques for a total of Rs. 8,99,80,306 were handed over to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday for the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund (CMPRF) for relief and rehabilitation measures in the flood-affected areas.

Of this, Rs. 3,21,50,000 had come from workers and employees of the State Transport Corporations and Rs. 2,78,70,000 from the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board employees (TNEB), who had contributed their day's salary to the fund. The cheques for these amounts were handed over by the Transport and Electricity Minister, R. Viswanathan, Transport Secretary, P. Shanmugam, Energy Secretary, R. Satpati, and Chairman, TNEB, Hansraj Varma.

A total of Rs.2,06,84,794 had been handed over by the Minister for Industries, Nainar Nagenthran, Secretary (Industries), D. Rajendran, and Chairman and Managing Director, TAMIN, V. Kanagaraj. The amount included contributions made by TIIC, TIDCO, TIEL, Department of Geology and Mines, TIDEL Park and TANSALT.

Information Minister K.P.Anbazhagan, Secretary (Municipal Administration and Drinking Water Supply), M. Sheela Priya, and Managing Director, Metrowater, V.Thangavelu, handed over cheques for a total of Rs.12,73,102. The amount included contributions made by the Metrowater employees.

A.V. Dharmakrishnan, Executive Director (Finance), Madras Cements, handed over a cheque for Rs.30 lakhs. P.V. Ramamurthy, Director (Human Resources) along with two other executives of the Coca Cola (India), donated Rs. 20 lakhs towards the CMPRF.

Subbiah and three other functionaries of the State Bank of India Officers Association Educational Trust handed over a cheque for Rs.13.02 lakhs to the Chief Minister on behalf of the school staff, parents and administration, the release said.
