BANGALORE: With the Supreme Court holding that the Fee Fixation Committee should fix fee for professional courses, the committee now headed by retired judge, Rangavittalachar, will meet regularly to decide on the fee to be charged by private medical and dental colleges. The Supreme Court had disposed of an impleading application in a Special Leave Petition by M.S. Ramaiah College from Bangalore. Dismissing the application, the Supreme Court had said that the law relating to fixation of fee stood settled as in the P.A. Inamdar case. It had said that the petitioner (M.S. Ramaiah College) could approach the committee and place before it all legal and factual aspects for fixation of interim fee. With the matter now before the committee, it has called a meeting of its five-member panel to discuss the issue of fixing fee for undergraduate and postgraduate medical and dental colleges. There are 29 medical and 40 dental colleges in the State and the committee will have to fix fee for each course. Counsel for the committee, A.N. Venugopal Gowda, told The Hindu on Monday that the committee would try to fix the final fee structure in a month. In the alternative, it would come out with an interim fee structure. The committee members would meet daily to discuss the fee structure for each one of the medical and dental colleges.
