CHENNAI: A Japanese delegation led by Masayuki Matsushita, vice-chairman of Matsushita Corporation, met with officials from the Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry over dinner on Friday at the end of its two-day visit to the city. "During our stay we came to know that Tamil Nadu is a very attractive place for investing," Mr. Matsushita said.
Business ties
"Many Japanese companies have started operations. Now we have to launch a full-scale business relationship between India and Japan. Kansai is the second largest economic area in Japan. The GDP of Kansai is more than Canada. It is a valuable opportunity to discuss possibilities," he said. Yuji Okada, Japanese Consul, said, "We will do our best to consolidate the relationship, deepen understanding and explore opportunities to work together." Making a case for (seeking more investments in) Tamil Nadu, N. Krishnaswami, secretary-general of IJCCI said it was the safest State with the largest technical manpower pool and infrastructure with very few power cuts. He wanted auto giant Nissan to look at investing in Tamil Nadu.
Economic inputs
R. Veeramani, president of the IJCCI assured members of the delegation that the chamber would provide economic inputs or assistance needed and hoped that the fruitful ties between the countries would be strengthened to benefit south India, particularly Tamil Nadu.
