CHENNAI: The Indian Railway Technical Supervisors' Association has urged the Railway Ministry to provide additional technical staff to meet the increasing workload. The association, in a memorandum to the Ministry, said while duties and responsibilities of technical employees had increased substantially following regular increase in number of trains, proportionate increase in the strength of technical personnel was not there. A number of technical personnel posts had not been filled and many posts had been surrendered. As the prime motive of railways was to provide safe journey to passengers, the Ministry should provide adequate strength of technical staff. The association also demanded time bound promotion to them and revised incentive rates for junior engineers considering the merger of dearness allowance. It also sought pay parity for them on a par with the public sector units and the corporate sector.
Pay Commission
The association also urged the Centre to set up the sixth pay commission immediately. A two-day general body meeting of the association will begin on Tuesday. The president and general secretary and Chennai Divisional Railway Manager G.Narayanan will participate. As part of the meeting, a health care session is planned for the members, according to an association press release.
