Apologise to people, Hassan tells CPI(M)

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) should apologise to the people for its anti-development activities before making public its report on the International Congress on Kerala Studies, said Congress leader M.M. Hassan on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Hassan said the Congress on Kerala Studies, organised by the CPI(M), endorsed the policies of the United Democratic Front (UDF) Government in the State and was in tandem with the policies initiated by the P.V. Narasimha Rao Government at the Centre in the early Nineties.

The CPI(M) which vehemently opposed foreign investment and private capital in development projects is now giving a green signal to these. It is akin to endorsing the Congress policies, he added.

The CPI(M)'s stand on privatisation of the electricity sector is the same as what the UDF Government has been pleading for long, Mr. Hassan said. Mr. Hassan demanded that the party explain the sponsorship of a mineral sand mining company of the Congress on Kerala Studies.
