Letters to the Editor
After Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, it was only a matter of time before the parochial contagion caught up with the Kannadigas and made them demand that the Karnataka capital be renamed Bengalooru. What spurred the sentiment are the emotionally charged discussions among intellectuals and in the media in recent times about Kannada and Kannadigas being side-lined.
H.R. Bapu Satyanarayana,
Has any tangible benefit accrued from changing the names of Calcutta, Madras, Bombay, and Trivandrum? I do not think so. The decision to rename Bangalore as Bengalooru will be a futile and wasteful exercise. There seems to be no limit to the absurdities that governments will indulge in, while more important things for the improvement of the health and education of the common man wait indefinitely.
C.V.K. Moorthy,
