Congratulations!

By surpassing Sunil Gavaskar's record of 34 Test centuries, Sachin Tendulkar has done India proud. Sachin is perfection personified. His repertoire includes both artistic and adventurous shots. Let us hope he brings more laurels to the country.

Devadas K. Nair,
Aluva, Kerala

Sachin is a humble man who has stayed calm in the face of criticism and answered his critics in the best way he could — with his mighty bat. His achievement has made Indians all over the world proud of him.

P. Muthu Kumar,
British Columbia, Canada

Sachin has left indelible impressions on both versions of the game. He has toppled many world records. His motto, "be true to yourself" has paid off.

V.U.V.S.N. Prasad,
Hyderabad

As you have pointed out in the editorial, `Playing it out to perfection' (Dec. 12), Sachin surpassing Gavaskar's record was a foregone conclusion which in itself is a measure of his greatness. He is a unique cricketer who handled success with grace and humility. The legions of his fans will wish him a long life and good health to enable him to serve Indian cricket for many more years and establish more records on the way.

C.P. Srinivasan,
Chennai
