Staff Correspondent
B.S. Sial
Bidar: There is no intelligence information on any specific threat to the life of any leader in the State from naxalites, including Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh, Director General and Inspector General of Police B.S. Sial here said on Tuesday. "Reports that Mr. Dharam Singh will henceforth be accompanied by a posse of 200 policemen are false. Deployment of additional police force to protect VIPs during elections is a routine. It is not due to any threat by the naxalites," he said. He said the police department is taking precautions to combat the naxalite problem. He later chaired a review meeting of the department. Passing of the Disaster Management Bill will better equip the police force to serve the people better, he said. Reacting to the Lok Sabha passing the Bill on Monday, Mr. Sial said its enactment will help avoid confusion among departments and help the Government serve the people better. "It will lead to setting up of disaster management committees at the national, State and district level. It will lead to delegation of responsibilities to various government departments," he said. Disasters come as a shock to the administration. There is a lot of confusion among the people and officials during a disaster. Passing of the Bill clears most of the confusion. It will help reduce loss to life and property, Mr. Sial said.
