Appeal to State Minorities Commission against imposing Kannada on Marathi-speaking people

Belgaum: The Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) has questioned the silence of State Minority Commissioner on the issue of safeguarding the interests of Marathi-speaking people in Belgaum and border areas adjoining Maharashtra in the State. In a memorandum submitted to the Commission under the Right to Information Act here recently, the MES Acting President Deepak Dalvi said the MES has been requesting the Commissioner's office for relief from imposing Kannada language on Marathi-speaking people, but the latter has not responded so far.

The MES has sought information on the measures taken on its request for displaying signboards in Marathi in the city and mofussil bus services and issuance of circular to all government departments to provide information in Marathi. The MES wants to know whether the Commissioner has issued any orders and whether they have been implemented.
