Lord Venkateswara

TIRUMALA : A Chennai-based devotee on Tuesday donated a `Satari' made up of gold to Lord Venkateswara here.

The devotee, who wished to remain anonymous, handed over the fabulous offering to the temple authorities. The total weight of the offering is half a kilogram.

In another donation, a Bangalore-based devotee, Anantaramu, handed over a demand draft for Rs. 5.42 lakhs. - Staff Reporter

Kakinada: Two youths were found dead on the railway track near the Pithapuram level crossing on Tuesday.

The name Maniraju was tattooed on the left hand of one of them. The Tuni railway police registered a case. - Correspondent

Jailed for abusing

Sangareddy: The court dealing with cases related to SCs and STs on Tuesday convicted Samala Mallaiah of Gatlamalyal village of Nangunoor mandal for abusing one Illaiah in the name of case on July 17 last year. Special judge D. Chiranjeevi Babu sentenced him to undergo imprisonment of five years and pay a fine of Rs. 6,000. - Staff Reporter

Navodaya vidyalaya

Kakinada: Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Peddapuram, near here, has secured national award of Rs.5 lakhs as it stands second among all the Government-run schools across the country in e-literacy.

The school has already been selected at State-level as the best performing vidyalaya for third computer literacy excellency awards. N.S. Reddy, Principal of the school, received the awards from President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at a function held in New Delhi on December 7. -Correspondnet

HYDERABAD : The Andhra Pradesh State Cultural Council will organise a week-long `Ashtavadhanam' in a literary tribute to `avadhanis' Kopparapu Brothers from December 16 to 22 at Ravindra Bharati here.

`Avadhanis' -- Madugula Nagaphani Sarma, Garikapati Narasimha Rao, Gandluri Dattatreya Sarma, Rallabandi Kavitha Prasad, Ashtakala Narasimha Sarma, Kadimella Varaprasad, Kota Lakshmi Narasimham and Vaddiparthi Padmakar -- will participate in the event. - Special Correspondent

Ganja plants

destroyed

WARANGAL: Excise personnel raided the ganja fields and destroyed 1,375 plants worth Rs. 3 lakhs in Sangarajupalli and Pulukurthi in Atmakur mandal.

Four persons - G. Ramesh, I. Babu Rao, P. Suresh and I. Chennaiah - were arrested in connection with it while five others managed to escape. - Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD : Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited on Tuesday announced the availability of telephone directory with yellow pages in CD ROM format, corrected up to August 15, 2005, at its office in Suryalok Complex, Gunfoundry.
