HYDERABAD: The Commercial Taxes Department is gearing up to introduce e-filing system of commercial tax returns to all the dealers from the beginning of the next financial year. The total computerisation of the department is in advanced stages and certain shortcomings in terms of broadband availability and connectivity have been identified. "Once they are rectified, the department will offer e-filing facility to all its dealers and customers," the Minister for Commercial Taxes, Konathala Ramakrishna, said. He said that the department was also making efforts to provide downloadable forms to the dealers to ensure that they are not forced to make rounds to the commercial taxes offices.
Revenue loss
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a State-level conference of Deputy Commissioners of Commercial Taxes here on Tuesday, he said the department had netted revenue of Rs. 7,490 crores till November-end, Rs. 847 crores increase over the same period of the previous year. Following introduction of Value Added Tax system in the State, the department was exploring new areas from where it could realise the revenue to bridge the gap. The compensation given by the Centre was insufficient to bridge it. In addition, the proposed phase-wise abolition of the Central Sales Tax would also cause revenue loss to the tune of Rs. 1,000 crores. He said the department would forthwith concentrate on areas like steel, cement, plywood and edible oils where it had detected several cases of tax evasion. It was also taking steps for speedy refund of amounts to those complying with norms. Mr. Ramakrishna earlier inaugurated the conference hall.
