PUDUKOTTAI: In separate incidents, over 500 people staged road rokos in three places near Gandarvakottai in the district on Tuesday demanding flood relief to the affected people. At Vembampatti, around 250 people, including 75 women, staged a road roko in the morning. They gave up the stir after revenue officials assured to look into their demand. Similarly, around 200 persons squatted on the Gandarvakottai - Karambakudi road at Sundhampatti for some time demanding flood relief. Police said 200 persons staged a road roko on the Gandarvakottai-Sengipatti road at Murattu Solagampatti.
Karur
Residents of Thillai Nagar in Thanthoni Panchayat in the district staged a road roko on Monday complaining that adequate flood relief was not made available to the affected in the area. Incidentally, an AIADMK Councillor led the protest. Irked over the apathy in relief distribution in Thillai Nagar, Venkateswara Nagar, and VOC Street, in the Fifth Ward of the Thanthoni Panchayat, public led by the AIADMK Councillor, Subramanian, staged to a road roko on the Karur-Esanatham road. The crowd dispersed only after the officials assured that adequate relief would be provided.
