Transparent admission policy sought in minority institutes

  • Issue before Parliament for necessary amendment to the Constitution
  • Representation presented to President, Prime Minister, Speaker of LS
  • `No point in minority institutions holding separate self-entrance tests'

Hyderabad: The Minorities Rights Protection Committee (MRPC) has favoured centralised admissions in the professional minority educational institutions through the convenor, Common Entrance Test, in accordance with the recent Supreme Court ruling.

The admission process should be transparent and the fee structure should be regulated and fixed by the State Government, said committee president Mohd. Ansari.

He told presspersons here on Tuesday that the Government was bringing up the issue before Parliament for necessary amendment to the Constitution with regard to reservation and admission process in unaided, non-minority colleges.

If the Government is sincere in doing justice to meritorious minority students then it should include the minority professional colleges also under the proposed amendment, Mr. Ansari said.

    Detailed representation

He said a detailed representation highlighting the large-scale irregularities and corrupt practices by managements of minority institutions had been presented to President A.P.J. Abul Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterji, AICC president Sonia Gandhi, HRD Minister Arjun Singh and other MPs.

Referring to the various malpractices in the minority institutions, Mr. Ansari said the only solution lay in centralised admission process through common entrance test.
