ANANTAPUR: Former naxal leader Mahadev (75), popularly known as Bandaiah Master, was shot dead at Chabala in Vajrakarur mandal of Anantapur district on Tuesday. Mahadev was a close associate of Kondapalli Seetharamaiah and stood by him whenever the party split. According to reports, four unidentified youth fired at him when he was with friends at the village post office around 6.30 pm. He died on the spot. Mahadev was convicted in a murder case and served the term before going underground for the second spell. Rivalry between militant groups in the area was considered the reason for the murder as he was blamed for an encounter in the past. Several Left leaders condemned the murder of Mahadev who started career as a teacher and spent most of his life in the Left movement.
TDP leaders held
The police arrested 70 TDP MLAs and former ministers, including MLAs M. Goverdhan Reddy, P. Kesav, former ministers Nimmala Kistappa, Samanthakamani, former MP Kalva Srinivasulu, Palle Raghunatha Reddy and party district president U. Hamunatharaya Choudary, when they tried to barge into the Collectorate as part of a 48-hour dharna on Tuesday. The TDP launched the protest yesterday to press the government for compensation to the groundnut farmers who suffered losses on account of rains.
To protest against the arrest, the TDP cadre organised rasta roko at Sapthagiri chowk.
