Matter sent to Division Bench that is seized of appeals by all the convicts They seek bail as they had been in jail for past five years during trial of the case

NEW DELHI: Four of the convicts in the Red Fort attack case, who were sentenced to seven years' rigorous imprisonment each for different offences on October 31 this year, approached the Delhi High Court on Tuesday seeking suspension of their sentence and grant of bail.

The petitioners -- Rehmana Yusuf Farooqui, Indian-origin wife of Pakistan national and member of the terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba Mahammed Arif who was awarded a death sentence in the case, Sadaquat Ali, Matloob Alam and Babar Mohsin -- submitted that they deserved bail as they had been in jail for the past five years during the trial of the case.

After hearing counsel for the petitioners, Justice R.C. Jain sent the matter to a Division Bench that is seized of the appeals by all the convicts in the case and the death sentence reference from the trial court.

Rehmana Yusuf Farooqui was sentenced to seven years' rigorous imprisonment "for non-disclosure of the designs of Arif, as the offences were committed on account of the non-disclosure of the plans,'' the trial court judgment said.

Ration card

Matloob Alam was sentenced for forging a ration card for Arif to give him an Indian identity and Babar Mohsin and Sadaquat Ali for giving shelter to Arif before and after the incident.
