Manak Alankaran Award

NEW DELHI: Gopendra Nath Bhatt, Joint Director of Rajasthan Information Centre here, has been selected for Special Category Manak Alankaran Award in the field of public relations.

The award, announced by the selection committee headed by Justice Krishnamal Lodha of Rajasthan High Court, is presented every year in memory of the founder of daily "Jalte Deep", Manak Mehta.

Kapil Bhatt, Special Correspondent of Outlook, has been nominated for Manak Alankaran Award-2005.

Mechanical engineers' conference

NEW DELHI: Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi inaugurated the three-day 14th India Society of Mechanical Engineers International Conference here on Monday.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Joshi emphasised the need to seriously deliberate on how mechanical engineering can help create world-class small and medium enterprises. "Product innovation does not require a highly sophisticated industrial environment. It requires support of the knowledge management centres and technology incubators."

Safety and fire exhibition

NEW DELHI: Intelligence Bureau director E.S.L. Narasimhan brought the curtain down on the four-day International Security, Safety and Fire Exhibition-2005 at Pragati Maidan here on Monday.

The exhibition, according to Mr. Narasimhan, provided an excellent forum for all security-conscious citizens of the country to exchange information and ideas and generate new business opportunities and technology transfers.

Organised jointly by the Central Industrial Security Force and the India Trade Promotion Organisation, the exhibition was attended by over 130 leading companies from across the world.

Demand to fill up vacancies for the blind

NEW DELHI: The National Federation of the Blind led by its general secretary S.K. Rungta held a rally here on Tuesday to press its 12-point charter of demands.

The demands include filling up of vacancies reserved for the blind by undertaking special recruitment drives, reservation in promotion and revision of scholarship rates for pursuing studies.

Free health camp

NEW DELHI: G.M. Modi Hospital and Research Centre for Medical Sciences organised a free health check-up camp at J.J. Colony here over the weekend for the poor.
