Two held on forgery charge

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Police on Monday arrested the Assistant Manager of a bank and her husband in connection with a forged documents case.

Police identified the arrested as Radha (45), employed in a private bank at its Tiruvanmiyur branch and her husband, Paneerselvam (48), a businessman.

Police said Mariamma (75), mother of Paneerselvam, filed a petition before the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner R. Nataraj, stating that her son was attempting to sell off a property worth Rs. 30 lakh belonging to her using fake documents, including a power of attorney.

The case was handed over to the Central Crime Branch Police, who arrested Paneerselvam and Radha, who have been remanded to judicial custody.

Fake document case

In a similar case, Central Crime Branch Police arrested a 39-year-old man on charges of selling a property by forging a document at Kolathur on Tuesday.

Police said S. Srinivasan, son of the Tamil novelist, Kothamangalam Subbu, had bought five cents of land in Pandian Nagar, Vettuvankeni, in 1994. As Mr. Srinivasan was transferred to Mumbai, he shifted from the city and settled there. A few months ago, he decided to sell the property. When he tried to get an encumbrance certificate for his land from the Registration department, he found the ownership of the property had already been transferred in another name.

He filed a complaint with the City Police Commissioner. The Central Crime Branch, which investigated the case, found out that Antony had faked a document to acquire the property in his name. He had then given power of attorney for the property to another person,Murugan of Gandhi Nagar, Kolathur, who tried to sell it to Vijayasubramanian of Anna Nagar.
