Mumbai: The film industry on Tuesday bid a tearful adieu to Ramanand Sagar, veteran Bollywood director-producer and the man behind the all-time-superhit teleserial `Ramayan', who died here on Monday. Director-producer Yash Chopra joined Sagar's sons in carrying his body to the pyre and Sagar's eldest son Subhash lit the funeral pyre at Vile Parle crematorium. Musician Ravindra Jain, who composed the background score for the mega-serial, said that by taking the epic to every household in India via the teleserial, Sagar lived up to his name. "The serial immortalised him," he said. Actors Arun Govil, who enacted the role of Ram in the serial, and Deepika Chikhaliya, who played the role of Sita, paid tributes to the late director. Those attended Sagar's last rites included, Poonam Dhillon, Shakti Samanta, Kiran Kumar and Raza Murad. PTI
Shekhawat condoles
New Delhi Special Correspondent reports: Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat has condoled the death of film-maker Ramanand Sagar. In a letter to the film-maker's son, Prem Sagar, he said Ramananad Sagar was an illustrious son of India and an epitome of high moral values and ethos of the country's culture. Ramanand Sagar was an imaginative and creative genius who used the medium of celluloid to "nurture and propagate our rich cultural heritage through the epoch making serials like Ramayana for which he will be remembered forever". The nation will always remember with gratitude his distinguished service, the Vice President said.
