Police resort to lathicharge in Borabanda

HYDERABAD: Felling of a tree led to communal clashes in Borabanda on Tuesday night. At least 10 persons were injured, an APSRTC bus was damaged and shops were forcibly closed in Bharatnagar and Indiranagar as members of two communities went on a rampage attacking houses of each other.

Trouble started when one Akhil Ahmed cut off a tree in his house at Bharatnagar.

The tree fell on the neighbouring house of Hanmanthu whose family members picked up a quarrel with Ahmed saying the tree damaged their house. After heated arguments, Hanmanthu and his family members allegedly beat up Ahmed. As the news about the assault spread, a large number of people assembled and attacked Hanmanthu' s house and those of his relatives and friends in the adjoining Indirammanagar around 7 p.m.

With this, people of both the communities gathered on either side and started attacking their opponents.

S.R. Nagar Inspector A. Venkataratnam, along with additional forces, rushed to the spot and resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd. The situation was tense but under control.
