Two held on charge of stealing 48 two-wheelers
Staff Reporter9
HYDERABAD:
They managed to steal 32 scooters, but did not know how to dispose of them. Remove engine from the scooter, melt it and sell off as scrap at the rate of Rs.1,500 each was what finally Mirza Gaffar Baig, 42, and Mohd. Raheem Khan, 40, allegedly did.
The East Zone police on Tuesday arrested both of them on charge of stealing 48 two-wheelers and selling 32 of them as scrap. After removing engine, they did not know what to do with the remaining metal frames of the stolen scooters and hence threw all of them into Balapur tank.
"At their instance, we retrieved frames of 32 scooters from the tank," East Zone DCP K.V. Rajendranath Reddy told a press conference. They also stole 10 other scooters, six motorcycles and five auto-rickshaws. They kept the scooters and bikes in the garages of mechanics known to them and gave the three-wheelers on rent to some drivers.
