THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : `Dreaming Lhasa' made by a composite crew is a homeless film, directors Ritu Sarin and Tenzing Sonam have said.

Addressing a meet-the-press programme held as part of the 10th International Film Festival of Kerala here on Tuesday, the directors said that they feel orphaned. The crew comprised people from different nations and fixing an identity for the film was rather impossible. Garnering funds for the film was also an arduous task. The National Film Development Corporation did not offer financial assistance and they collected funds from various sources.

The film does not deal with the political issues, but reflects only the hopes and aspirations of a group of marginalised people. Mr.Tenzing, who was born and brought up in Darjeeling, said that there is a subjective element in the film. They are planning to screen the film in different parts of the country, including Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh where the Dalai Lama is expected to visit soon. They wanted other film-makers to do more films on the Tibetans.

Making of `Darshan'

Manuel De La Roche, producer of `Darshan,' the documentary on Mata Amrithanandamayi, shared his experiences about making the film with the IFFK delegates. After meeting the Mata at Paris, Roche was inspired to produce a film and secured her permission for the project. He then suggested to his friend and film-maker Jan Kounen to make the film. Kounen evinced interest in directing the film and reminisced that he had waited in a queue to meet her. Kounen said he would only be too glad to do it. Roche described the Mata as an ocean of compassion, and one who is dedicated to social work. The film was shot in Kochi, Varanasi, Kolkatta and Rajasthan. It was screened at various festivals.
