Better facilities sought

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Member of Parliament Panniyan Ravindran has demanded better facilities for people residing in various relief camps in the city. In a release issued here on Tuesday, Mr. Ravindran said that nearly 44 families belonging to the fishing community are residing in Valiathura L.P. School camp alone. Since these families have to be evacuated from the camps owing to examinations, arrangement should be made to re-locate them to safer places, he said. — Staff Reporter

Prompt police

action urged

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Federation of Residents Associations have called for prompt action by the police against the frequent incidents of burglaries and thefts reported in the city. In a release issued here on Tuesday, association's president Vennikkulam George Varghese has advocated community policing by various residents association to ensure their safety. — Staff Reporter

Drive against drunkenness

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The executive director (Vigilance) Kerala State Road Transport Corporation K.M.S. Panikkar has said that steps have been taken to initiate stringent action against employees who consume alcohol during working hours. A notice to this effect has been issued to the respective unit officers, squad inspectors and inspector-in-charge. This was announced in a release issued by the KSRTC. — Staff Reporter

Withdrawal of parking fees sought

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala N.G.O. Association president, Kambara Narayanan has called for an immediate withdrawal of the recently hiked railway parking fees. He was speaking after inaugurating a dharana organised in front of the Thampanoor Railway Station today. — Staff Reporter

Electrocuted

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minimol, 23, a resident of Nettayam, was electrocuted this afternoon after she came in contact with the antenna of her television while drying clothes on the terrace, the police have said. She died at the hospital. — Staff Reporter
